Visa Eligibility

Only China, Indonesia and Philippines passport holders will require a visa for entering Barcelona.

If you are a citizen of the following countries kindly apply for a visa.

*For Singaporeans and Malaysians when entering Europe, no VISA or ETIAS application is required

Please apply for your visa as early as possible as the processing time can range from 2 weeks to 2 months.

Documents required:
1. Fully completed Visa Application Form
2. 2 recent passport photographs (within the last 3 months)
3. Valid Passport, not older than 10 years and with at least 3 months or more validity
4. Round trip reservations or itinerary
5. Travel insurance policy (minimum coverage of EUR 30,000)
6. Proof of accommodation
7. Proof of financial means (Bank account/ Sponsorship letter)
8. Proof of paid visa

From February 2023, the way you travel to and from Barcelona has changed.
All travelers should be aware that:

  1. People entering Barcelona do not need to provide evidence of vaccination status
  2. People leaving Barcelona will not be asked to provide evidence of their vaccination status
  3. Unvaccinated visa holders do not need a travel exemption to travel to Barcelona.

COVID-19 Checklist when travelling into Barcelona:

  • Mask requirement on flight to Barcelona is dependent on the airline, please check with your relevant airline for the latest mask requirement. 
  • You are not required to take a test upon arrival, except for travellers from China, Hong Kong and Macau.

VAT Refund

The standard VAT rate in Spain is 21%. 

You are eligible for a VAT Refund before leaving Spain if you meet all the following requirements:

  • Your permanent residence is outside of the European Union
  • You must have all the completed forms and documents required:
    1. A completed Tax-Free Form
    2. Original receipts of the goods purchased
    3. The goods purchased
    4. Passport
    5. Your flight boarding passes

Procedure of VAT Refund
1. Ask for and fill in the Global Blue Tax-Free form in the shops where you buy your purchases.

2. The shop may ask you to provide proof that you are a visitor to the EU. Please have your passport or other identity documents ready in case.

3. Before boarding on your day of departure, proceed to Customs with the forms, your passport or ID document, the goods purchased and your boarding pass.
Goods should be kept available for inspection, unused and with the original receipts.

4. Proceed to a desk or office displaying a Global Blue logo – some currency exchanges have this also.

  1. Present your stamped and completed Tax Free Form and travel document to receive the refund in cash or to your card. Once at the airport, you will need to present at the TRS counter. You will still need to attend a TRS facility with your tax invoice. This does not submit your claim, but it speeds up the process.
  2. Claim in person by showing your passport, boarding pass and original invoices to the TRS on the day of departure more than 30 minutes before departure at the airport.
